penelopepitbull asked: So, what is stopping these people who are getting their furbabies taken because of BSL from slamming the door in their faces and saying- fuck off?Because as far as I'm concerned, I own a staffie, shes a therapy dog, and I own a gun and they are trespassing. Why aren't people just not giving them up? I would gladly get arrested if my pitbaby was too.
most pit bull advocates and people that know there way around these laws fight it and win, but it costs money and takes a lot of time.
in the legal world “fuck off” doesn’t get you very far, avoidance isn’t really an option. legally they can take your dog, legally it’s not considered trespassing.
most “pit people” understand the extra effort it takes in owning these dogs, and the extra time it takes in finding a place to live. as far as i understand if a city or state passes a breed ban current owners are either grandfathered in or given a certain amount of time to figure something out. after that allotted time though, they are well within their rights to “confiscate” your dog.
it just depends on the situation, but the people that let them take their dogs don’t care enough, don’t have the resources, or simply don’t know how to fight it.
i know the laws regarding the breeds well enough that i would probably never be in this situation, BUT if i ever was - i am a big believer in working within the law. i would be cooperative, and fight like hell in the legal system. if worse came to worse i’d straight up move.
that would be a really great project though, talking to pit owners that have had people come and take their dogs, or pit owners in places like Ohio (who’s state wide ban i think was just repealed) and Denver to see how they worked around it, or in some cases didn’t.
regardless, myself, and many many others are working their asses off every single day so that this doesn’t happen, so this can’t happen, and one day won’t even be a concern.
